CBC strike


It wasn't that long ago that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation had one of the finest -- if not the finest -- newsgathering operations in North America. Sadly, since 1990, the Canadian government has steadily chipped away at the public broadcaster's funding, diminishing it's newsgathering abilities.

Yes, there was some waste. I was a lineup editor in 1990 and had more production assistants than I needed. I thought there were far too many unions in the shop. Yet, the current lockout may be the death of Canada's public broadcaster.
